Why Video Games Might Be The Best Way To Learn How To Cook
Globaloria I thought this was a really good article by Gizmodo that related to Globaloria. It shows several YouTube videos that make the point that video games help you learn to cook. Just what Globaloria is all about learning through the use of video games. Check it out here: Why Video Games Might Be The Best Way To Learn How To Cook

IT210 8/27
IT 210 I have assigned dates for the online questions as well as the virtual labs you are to be doing. The dates have been posted in Blackboard. Tonight's class went over Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007. It is available as a free download either off the web or I have put it on the z: drive at school. I want you all to learn to use virtual machines. I have also create a clean XP install for you to play with. Learn to use this over the next couple of weeks as I want to have a few labs that involve the virtual pc.

IT183 8/27
IT 183 Lectured on the first part of chapter 2. We will cover the OSI model next class, since I want to play the networking game to help you out. We went over the majority of chapter 3 and ten did an in class assignment. The questions are located in the downloads section.

IT180 8/27 - Find the Part
IT 180 Since everyone is so green on being able to identify parts of a computer we spent the entire class researching various computer components that I had laid out on the table. There were 26 items, varying in type, and age. You need to get in the downloads section and snag the Finding Parts spreadsheet and fill it out with as much info as you can find. This will be due next class.

IT275 8/25 - Getting Started with Flash
Globaloria We worked on blogger for a while, playing and learning about rss feeds and how to add them to your site. I want everyone to not only start blogging but personalize your blog space to reflect yourself. We then spent a little time playing games from the MyGLife website and learning what a game that deals with social issues is all about. Then the fun stuff...:)

Yay! We began to learn about flash. Starting simply, we made a ball bounce across the screen. As an in class assignment I wanted you to draw something in flash and using the skills we learned, animated it, then upload it to the wiki. As a little side project we learned how to embed the swf files we uploaded into Blogger.

Your assignment for this coming week is to blog (2 entries) about something you learned in Flash. You should be playing with it in any free time you have in the lab. You also need to be thinking about a story that you can animate. We will be doing some paper prototyping and working on our stories next time.

Edit: Here is the link to Monica Larson's story to give you an idea. The story of Icarus.

IT 183 Had an in class assignment. The questions were posted in the downloads section and I added to them on the board. You were to finish them up in class and send them to me via email.

IT180 8/25
IT 180 Made sure everyone could get into blackboard and assigned chapter 1 questions both review and practice. They are due before midnight on Friday. I'll have a schedule up shortly of when I want them all due. We then had a little in class lab on how to identify the parts inside your computer using the built in software in windows. We then played with SiSoft Sandra and used it to take inventory of our machines. We will play with the benchmarking function of it next class.

The Preacher Who Saves Souls & Data.
Tech Hell Ok so I have to tell this story. I just cant contain myself. A friend calls me up (at 10 til 8am in the morning knowing I go to bed between 3-4am) and asks if I could work on his moms computer. No problem, Ive fixed it in the past and I will be glad to do it again. "Just beat on the door, dude Im in bed." A few minutes goes by and the pc shows up. I tell him it will be a while since there are a couple of pcs ahead of his. But this is just the start to another Tech Hell story.

Inconsiderate Customers
Tech Hell
In the ongoing saga that is my job I do run across some rather strange people as you can tell by previous posts. Well I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would share a recent story. I get called out to replace a mb and ps. I call the woman and make an appointment. As I ask for directions, (Google maps is pretty good but in WV it usually maps the mailbox which sometimes is a mile from the actual home) and the woman finishes her statement with, "Honey I live in a trailer and have 3 Greyhounds, call before you get here, that way I can put them up." Oh boy I'm looking forward to this already. 3 huge canines, 1 tiny ass trailer, oh I smell a story brewin’!

The Beauty of Nature
PS Contest I usually don't like to put personal stuff here other than rants about dumb customers, but I've got to make an exception this time. I was at work tonight and after a quick shower we were blessed with the most intense rainbow I have ever whitnessed. And as always on the days I leave my camera behind are the ones great stuff happens. Luckily I have a backup. My new HTC Fuze has a 3.2 megapixel camera built in. I took a series of photos and managed to stitch and copy my way to an incredible shot. Click the pic for a good sized desktop version. A massive triple monitor super high res version is available on request. Enjoy.

Skype Status
General News I have added a Skype Status button to the menu so that you all know when I'm online and can give me a shout. I am trying to have Skype on all the time now, so give me a ring!

Wiki Avatars
Globaloria I updated the wiki page with your pictures. Please try and login and change your avatars and fill out some of the personal information. Visit the IMAGE GALLERY and not the avatar gallery, and retrieve your picture name. When changing your avatar all you have to give it is the file name. The wiki will link the picture in for you.

IT210 8/20
IT 210 Met for the first time and went over the syllabus (You guys know the drill). We then took the time to try and get logged in to Blackboard. The problems should be fixed and those who could not get in should now be able too. I went over how things are to be turned in and how the points system works for assignments being on time. Plan on meeting with me next Thursday unless you hear from me otherwise.

IT183 8/20
IT 183 I had a lecture on most of chapter 1. We made it to within just a couple of pages of the end. We talked about the new Intel i7 and AMD Phenom processors. I then gave an in class assignment based on Project 1-3 (note: based on does not equal doing the actual project)It was to be turned in by midnight so I can get it graded over the weekend. I'm still reeling from the fact that a war drive to Charleston that included a stop at QS&L on bike night met with hesitation. You guys need to check to see if you still have a pulse.
